Description
The Bóna Winery exemplifies the new generation of winemaking in the Felvidék (Upper Hungary) region: an estate that respects tradition while embracing an innovative approach, aiming to highlight the quality of Southern Slovakian wines through organic farming, modern technology, and a focus on the unique character of the terroir. Their goal is not merely to craft excellent wines but also to demonstrate that the Felvidék is one of the most exciting wine regions in the Carpathian Basin—a region still waiting to be fully discovered.
The estate is located in the Bátorkeszi area of the Southern Slovakian wine region, one of the warmest wine-growing zones in the Carpathian Basin. The loess, clay, and limestone soils, combined with a long, sunny autumn, provide ideal conditions.
Dunaj is a Slovak-bred red grape variety created in 1958 at the Bratislava Viticulture Research Institute by crossing Muscat Bouschet, Kékoportó (Blauer Portugieser), and Szent Lőrinc (Saint Laurent).
A truly Mediterranean-style wine, bursting with fruitiness. One would hardly guess it hails from a northern region, given its ripe Mediterranean characteristics, notes of red and black berries, and a hint of spice. Served slightly chilled, it makes an excellent companion for sunsets, even in summer. Its sweet, ripe, and gently spicy fruitiness perfectly complements the flavor profile of Hungarian dishes seasoned with sweet red paprika.
