Our first vineyard-selected asú wine comes from our south-facing, loess-soil Szarvas vineyard in Tarcal. 2013 was a very good vintage, when we were able to harvest high-quality aszu grains completely permeated by botrytis. It is mainly made from furmint and linden-leaved aszu grains, but also contains small amounts of zeta and fat grape aszu. The base wine is 100% Furmint from our Szarvas vineyard. We used 5-hectoliter Zemplén oak barrels in our Szegi cellar for both fermentation and maturation. The floral character of a loess terroir appears in its aroma, alongside pear and dried chamomile, grilled orange peel, botrytis and the slight oakiness of the new barrel. The taste is dominated by honey, pear preserves and quince cheese, but chamomile tea and ripe orange also appear here, keeping this exceptional wine fresh and spicy. In addition to the creamy and honey notes, the notes of ripe grapes and blackberries and the warmth of the hot vintage and the loess soil of the Szarvas dülő are also perceptibly present in its long, complex taste. These ripe, warm flavors nicely surround the fruitiness in the wine.
