Description
Kékfrankos is a magnificent terroir-driven variety! It is neither loud nor intrusive, yet it reveals a different facet of itself in every vineyard. This is particularly evident in the mica-schist and gneiss soils of Sopron.
It is the most important red grape variety for our winery, cultivated across a total of six hectares in three different vineyards. In 2022, we hand-harvested the fruit from the Spern Steiner, Steinhaufen, and Steiger vineyards separately and fermented the lots spontaneously in open vats. After maceration on the skins, we separated the free-run juice from the press wine and transferred the new wine into 500-liter Hungarian oak barrels. The wines from these vineyards were aged undisturbed on fine lees for 14 months, without any movement or racking. They were bottled without fining or filtration, with only a minimal addition of sulfur.
The Spern Steiner is densely structured and rich in minerals. The Steiger offers a broad flavor profile and a rich, fruity character. The Steinhaufen is subtly spicy and showcases the wonderful world of Kékfrankos with a distinctive acidity.
