Sanzon Tokaj Rány Furmint 2022

A refined interpretation of a unique and exciting terroir that carries all the power and character of the rocky, volcanic soil. It is defined by cool elegance, tight, crisp acids and deep minerality, and the finish is long and delicately vibrant. It opens up beautifully over time and gradually reveals its diverse aromas and delicate nuances.

2023: The changeable weather of the season brought several challenges: the cool, rainy spring delayed development, but the plantation was not damaged by frost. In the summer, the infection pressure was strong due to the rain and heat, which required increased attention. The end of July and August brought hot, dry weather, which facilitated ripening. In the end, we harvested a smaller quantity but outstanding quality.

Production site: Olaszliszka/Vámosújfalú, Vineyard: Rány/roofed and eastern side. Our first own vineyard, which we purchased in 2015. This vineyard is one of the oldest mentioned terroirs in Tokaj, with a history dating back to 1248. It is located on the eastern edge of the wine region, between Erdőbénye and Tolcsva, and is an old plantation with a unique location, where the vines are over 70 years old. The strong, recognizable character of the area is determined by the volcanic rhyolite bedrock — in many places it is not even covered by a layer of crop, only by bare rock. Thanks to this, the taste of the wines is shaped by deep minerality, cool elegance, and mint and lime freshness. After whole-bunch pressing, the wine fermented at a controlled temperature in steel tanks.
Maturation: 8 months, 1/3 of which took place in steel tanks, 2/3 in 500-liter Stockinger barrels.

Acid content: 6.8 g/l, residual sugar: 5.1 g/l
