Royal Tokaji
Mád-based Royal Tokaji was one of the first privately owned wineries to be established after the system change in 1989. When it was founded, 62 Mád winegrowers teamed up with foreign businessmen to save the wonderful values of the wine region. The basic philosophical goal of the winery to was to regain the wine regions international reputation for wine by making high-quality Tokaj wines. Hugh Johnson, one of the worlds most renowned wine experts, was among the companys founders. From the very beginning, the founders have placed great emphasis on finding historical vineyards that ensure the production of high-quality, unique wines. Currently, half their cultivated vineyard plots are in historic first-class vineyards, such as Szent Tamás, Nyulászó, Betsek, Birsalmás and Mézes Mály in Tarcal. These vineyards provided the basis for the winery to be the first to produce single-vineyard Aszú wines in the post-transition period, using the fruit from just one given vineyard. The success of Royal Tokaji wines is also confirmed by their awards at numerous renowned international and Hungarian wine competitions. The winery is now one of the leading wineries in the Tokaj wine region, exporting to over 30 countries, with their wines available to wine lovers on five continents. Since 2017, Máté Varga has been responsible for making the wines. The late harvest wine, partially made from oak-aged estate Furmint, is a benchmark wine for the wine region for both Hungarian and foreign consumers, with an excellent price/value ratio. Moreover, it has become a classic.
