Description
The Eichber Grand Cru has been recognized since 1983, an area of 56 hectares, located at an altitude of 220-340 m above sea level, which is located about 6 km from the center of the winery in Colmar. It is based on Triassic limestone, which is sometimes mixed with marl. Its northern side is partly, and its western side entirely, bounded by the Vosges ranges, which provide protection against cold air currents and storms, so the air temperature is about 1.5-2 degrees warmer than that of the surrounding vineyards. That is why wines with a higher must degree and fuller body are made from the raw material harvested here. This area is also more protected from the precipitation point of view, so the drinks here are softer in terms of acidity. The characteristics of the grand cru are perfectly displayed in the Eichberg Rhine Riesling: rustic, perhaps a bit typical of old Alsatian wines, mature, Turkish honey, apple cake aroma, mixed with some petroleum, Full-flavored, thick, more restrained in acids, a hint of residual sugar can be detected in the wine, which fits the style perfectly. It is characterized by minerality and good proportions, with a medium-long aftertaste.
